AudioCatch

GENERAL FAQ

1. What is Audio Catch?

Audio Catch is a revolution dedicated to reshaping the audio industry, allowing artists and clients the world over to conduct business free from the dated, clunky practices of ‘the system’.  Audio Catch is a groundbreaking online marketplace to source custom audio assets (music, sound effects, and voiceovers). Our crowd sourcing model allows a client working on any project to source the audio they require and pay for the level of talent they’d like to attract.   Composers, musicians, and voice-over artists audition directly to work on these Gigs by uploading customized auditions according to the client’s needs.

2. Wait, what are Gigs?

Gigs refer to “Projects” or “Jobs” run on Audio Catch.  Clients specify the price they are willing to pay, the media rights required, and the deadline for the Gig.  From there, the Gigs are open to all Audio Catch artists to participate in by uploading custom auditions.  Clients will provide feedback to artists using Audio Catch’s proprietary tools and finally select a winner.  From there the winner is paid.

5. So how does Audio Catch make money?

Audio Catch charges clients a listing fee for hosting Gigs and a Gig fee of 20% from the amount awarded to a winning artist.  By the way, the Gig fee percentage actually drops as you advance in levels.

7. What are Levels? And how do I Level Up?

Artists are differentiated by the LEVEL they have earned on Audio Catch.  Every artist begins at Level 1.  The way to level up is simply by winning Gigs!  Leveling up gives you greater visibility to clients, opens doors to exclusive Gigs, and also allows you to earn more on Audio Catch for every win.  Details on the rewards to come with every level will be published soon.

In short, leveling gives you two major benefits, more Gig Points per week (see above) and a greater percentage of earnings per win.  Below are the totals you need in earnings to level up:

As stated, leveling is based on how much you earn on Audio Catch.  Leveling thresholds are as follows:

Artist LevelLevel Thresholds
Level 1N/A
Level 2$0.01
Level 3$500
Level 4$2,500
Level 5$12,500
Level 6$50,000
Level 7$100,000

Please note:  These numbers are subject to change as we move forward.

8. What kinds of Gigs will Audio Catch offer?

Expect Gigs that range from opportunities in video games to audio books to radio spots to television to much more!

9. How do I know Clients are serious about these Gigs?

Clients are required to pay up front before their Gigs go live so you can trust that the Gigs are real!

10. Does Audio Catch own the audio files I upload?

Hell, no!  Your work is your own and we will never ask for any ownership in what is rightfully yours.  The only right we ever get is the right to play your tracks on the website.

11. What rights will I have over my audio if my audition to a Gig is a winner?

Clients specify the licensing rights they require prior to posting a Gig.  The licensing agreement will be available to view prior to your decision to participate.  The licenses fall into three large buckets, along with the skinny on what these mean to you:

·        Non-Exclusive License

o   This is the least comprehensive license type and thus is the ‘cheapest’ for clients

§  Client’s Right:  It allows the client to use your winning work ONLY for the Market and Purpose that client has specified.

§  Artist’s Right:  The artist can license or sell the work to anyone else without exception as long as it does not infringe on the client’s rights.  The artists naturally retain the right to include the work on their professional portfolios including their Audio Catch profiles.

·        For example:  If you grant a client a Non-Exclusive right to use your work in the Market: Radio with the Purpose: Radio Programming, you can license this same work to anyone, including another client intending to use the work Market: Radio with the Purpose: Radio Programming.

·        Exclusive License

o   This is the moderate license type and is thus the ‘moderately’ priced for clients

§  Client’s Right:  The client is given the right to use the winning work for any Purpose within ONLY a single Market.  The client cannot use the winning work in any other Market without first contacting the winning artist.

§  Artist’s Right:  The artist can license or sell the work to anyone else as long as the work is not used in the same Market as the client holding this license.  The artists naturally retain the right to include the work on their professional portfolios including their Audio Catch profiles.

·        For example:  If you grant a client an Exclusive right to use your work in the Market: Radio with the Purpose: Radio Programming, you can license this same work to anyone except to a client intending to use the work in the Radio Market, regardless of Purpose. Thus, you can license the same work to another client intending to use the work in the Video Game Market

·        Buyout

o   This is the most comprehensive option, essentially assigning any and all rights to the client.  Artists will expect to be well compensated for this option but it allows the client to use the winning work in any capacity they wish.

§  Client’s Right:  The client is now the copyright owner of the work and can use the work for anything they wish.

§  Artist’s Right:  The only right the artist retains is the right to include this work on their professional portfolios including their Audio Catch profiles.

·        For example:  If you grant a client a Buyout right to use your work in the Market: Radio with the Purpose: Radio Programming, you can ONLY use this work to present on a professional resume or portfolio, including your Audio Catch profile.  You do not have the right to license or sell your work to anyone else.  The client has the right to use the work for anything.
