Score Music – The Great City
BattleBards is working for a high-profile, undisclosed client set to release a new product aimed at the tabletop gaming market. As Audio Producer for this product, BattleBards will create and manage the audio needs required for this product with all final decisions regarding track selection handed off to the client. Selected artists will be credited with the creation of the tracks purchased. All Gigs are full Buyout only.
Gig Summary: The track is to be a score. The inclusion of diegetic elements including a soundscape or background accenting SFX in order to provide contextual backdrop to the scene is acceptable but not required. The track must be no shorter than 3:00 (3 minutes) but longer pieces would be welcome. The overall mood of the piece should be epic, medieval, fantasy, with an undertone of discovery and grandness. Stagnating and progressing approaches are both fine.
Gig Details - Descriptions:
Setting’s Environment. This track is to act as the major theme of one of the most central aspects of the entire project, the main city of the fictional world. A sprawling metropolis in a medieval fantasy world infused with magic and exotic races. This city is the shining jewel of the continent, acting as the cornerstone for military power, magical study, and religious authority. This piece is intended to be played when the listeners (players) first come to the gates of this imposing city, thus, the mixture of exciting discovery along with the epic grandness of the city is at the core of what we’re looking for. Imagine a group of small time backwater folks coming face to face with the greatness of Rome at its prime, beholding the Pyramids of Giza in their full splendor or, in a fictional context, the City of Gondor in the Lord of the Rings trilogy; that sense of awe and wonder should be the overall emotional thrust of the piece. Because this city is at the center of the client’s project, we would like to include a memorable core melodic structure which will become iconic to the city, allowing this and all future tracks incorporating the melody, in part or in whole, to act as reference in the city. A tremendous amount of creative license is being given to the talent to interpret the loose specifics of the setting and provide their own musical insight to this scene. With that said, we offer the following recommendations lightly.
Avoid any sharp changes in energy and tempo with the exception of the intro as an initial ‘reveal of the city’ can find a proper place within your composition. Changes in foreground instrumentation may be well executed to highlight various aspects of the metropolis such as its military power, magical heritage, multi-racial population (humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, etc) and so on, all while keeping to a core melodic structure. Trumpets and heavy brass are iconic to the thought of medieval cities and fortresses in part due to the historical connection and could find a good fit in this piece. Chorus vocals are always a staple in creating that epic feel to medieval fantasy tracks and may help shore up the needed sense of grand fantasy if needed. Feel free to ask questions regarding the scene, the city, the adventure, or anything else that you feel will give you what you need to create your track.

Chronicles of Narnia Soundtrack - The Battle by Harry Gregson-Williams
The section from 0:00 to 1:15 provides an incredible mixture of reveal and epic grandness with an arrangement which brings various fantasy-like elements to the piece. The drums lends a sense of power and military might while the vocals play to the epic and even magical aspects that can find a great spot in our piece.
Transformers – Autobots by Steve Jablonsky
Again, we have the sense of epic unveiling of something grand, powerful, and in this case, noble. During the various sections of the track, we can almost see the various nuances of the city from its solid stone ramparts to the shining citadels of magical power within the walls. Even more, Steve Jablonsky uses the core “Autobot” melodic structure to incredible effect throughout the OST of the film and beyond, that’s something we’d like to leverage down the road.
