    Gig Summary:
Now, onto the Gig itself. This track is to be a score track with some diegetic or source elements added as accenting SFX required to highlight the specifics of the gaming scene to which this track will be used as the backdrop for. Accenting SFX should be used sparingly but provide a means of grounding the listener to the environment and narrative sequence of the event. Critically important for this piece are the SFX elements which should be woven into the score as an organic aspect of the instrumentation. Simply adding relevant sound effects just for the sake of adding with little rhythm or reason will likely make those insertions come off as jarring and obtrusive. As a general rule of thumb, these accenting SFX elements should not exceed 25% of the track’s totally runtime. The track must be no shorter than 3:00 (3 minutes) but longer pieces would be welcome. The overall mood of the piece should be mysterious, reverent, and profound (even slightly epic given the importance of this scene in the game). Stagnating and progressing approaches are both fine.

    Gig Details - Descriptions:
Setting’s Environment. This piece is meant to be played at an important time in the adventure when the players learn of a prophecy told to them by a half-woman half-snake mystic. She enters a magical trance while telling the players of a dire prediction of the end times. This track is to provide the adequate mood for this pivotal scene where the prophetess pierces the veil of time to warn the players of what awaits the world should they fail. The track is focused on the music, so don’t worry about requiring any voiceover work. The actual narration may be recorded and layered onto this piece at a future date. The accenting SFX mentioned in the Gig Summary is absolutely key here as they are the only aspects we can rely on to ground the listener to the scene, in this case, a prophecy told by a half-woman, half-snake. Sound effect should focus on the prophetess herself, or more to the point, her snake characteristics, thus selections such as hissing and a subtle, background rattle (like the rattle of a rattlesnake) are good places to start. Try to vary the use of your sound effects, that is, if you’re going to use a SFX of a rattle, try to use different clips for each insertion since the same clip used too often becomes grating to the listener. The scene is set in an underground tunnel setting but we don’t want to focus too much on the physical location. If you wish to add a tiny bit of reverb / echo to the sound effects to accentuate the underground environment that’s fine but not required. A tremendous amount of creative license is being given to the talent to interpret the loose specifics of the setting and provide their own musical insight to this scene. Feel free to ask questions regarding the scene, the prophetess, the adventure, or anything else that you feel will give you what you need to create your track.

    Inspiration Reference:
The following tracks have been identified as providing a good basis for inspiration into the feel, energy, and direction this track requires. Please note that there will be no tolerance for stolen work, so make sure that submitted auditions are original compositions and that you have 100% rights to use and sell any samples or loops you embed.
Battlestar Galactica – Kobal’s Last Gleaming
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DDs6yZ4dbs

The combination of the cutting female vocals along with the haunting composition of both the background and foreground creates a sense of wonder, mystery, and hidden power. Use of female vocals can be tricky but powerful for our track. What’s interesting with this piece of inspiration is that the singer seems to be singing strange specific words, lending itself to a voice prophecy in the very track. That’s a pretty cool diegetic effect if you can figure out how to incorporate it for our snake lady.

D&D Official Roleplaying Soundtrack - Secret Chamber
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlO4CyHNAhE

The energy here is OK, not a bad starting point to get an idea for the tone and direction of composition for this piece. However, what’s outstanding is use of diegetic elements woven into the score itself. Heck, we even have some ‘tunnel-like’ sounds (distant echoing bangs) which fit the needs of our piece. As far as how to interweave your accenting SFX into the composition, this is a great reference.

Basil Poledouris (Conan the Barbarian - 05) - Atlantean Sword
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRZFtoiBAhM

The setup to this piece really drives home the mystery of solemn nature we’re looking for. Though the main melody is out of place in both the energy and style we’re looking for, it maintains an air of reverence we like for this piece.

If you know of a piece that you think carries with it what we’re trying to convey and you’re wondering if it’s a good source of inspiration, let me know and I’ll take a listen and provide some feedback.

If you have any questions, please shoot us over a message through Audio Catch, we’ll try to answer all of it, don’t be shy. We can’t wait to hear how you bring this orc feast to life!

    ENJOY!
