This track will be, in OCGG terms, an ambiance track or as it’s known in the industry, an underscore track. This Gig seeks to showcase one of the most evil, cunning, cruel, and powerful races in fantasy gaming, the Dark Elf. Portrayed extensively in the Dungeons and Dragons Tabletop Game and appearing in popular games such as The Elder Scrolls and Warhammer, any gamer will likely conjure a similar depiction of these creatures.
The antithesis of the elf, the dark elf is everything the normal elf is not. Wicked, cruel, sociopaths, self-centered, and wholly evil, this subrace of elf lives deep underground, shunning the surface world with all of its natural beauty and sunlight. This matriarchal society is refined and sophisticated with politics playing its role on every level and class of citizen. Think Nero’s Rome in 65 BC but under the lens of H.P. Lovecraft, the way to move up in this lightless world of the dark elf is through assassination, double dealing, and political intrigue. Slaves are nothing more than disposable property to either be worked to death, bred for more slaves, or fed to ravenous poisonous spiders which dark elves revere.
Now for what we’re looking for.
We want to take players deep underground to one of these Dark Elf cities where light, like hope, is nothing more than a myth. Built miles beneath the surface of the Earth in caverns spanning tens of square miles, the Dark Elves build their cities from the very stone. The City is vibrant and alive but not in the way a normal surface city is. Unlike a bustling market on the surface world, here, slaves walk the streets in droves doing their master’s bidding, massive spiders climbing the edges of homes without restriction, an invocation to their vile evil god can be heard in the distance as followers prostrate themselves to the priestess leading the worship.
The track we’re going for is dark, to put it lightly. The great expanse of this underground city and the many evils it harbors within its walls needs to come out in the music. Not a savage evil, not a mindless evil but a patient one, a scheming one, a timeless one. The use of some sound effects would likely be critical to illustrate the presence of a population and of course, the spiders that call this place home. Such backdrop soundscape should never steal focus of the music. Vocals and deep brass are good candidates to help bring out the ‘epic’, cavernous feel of this place while piano, strings, and vocals can create the overwhelming vile and dark effect. Obviously, choice of instruments are entirely up to you.

The following tracks have been identified as providing a good basis for inspiration into the feel, energy, and direction this track requires. Please note that there will be no tolerance for stolen work, so make sure that submitted auditions are original compositions and that you have 100% rights to use and sell any samples or loops you embed.
Midnight Syndicate - Secret Chamber
The forbidding feel that comes from the low key chanting combined with the underground sound effects presents a good starting point for the track we’d like. The droning adds an interesting feeling of unease that adds to the overall feeling of the track. Ultimately, this track never goes beyond ‘general tension’.
Midnight Syndicate – The Night Beckons
A wonderful mix of soundscape and music, this track is only highlighted for that mix. The music itself is off base with the focus being “creepy” and “ghostly”; that IS NOT what this track needs to be. The evil in this city does not hide, it’s not subtle.
Midnight Syndicate. The 13th Hour 1 - Mansion In The Mist
Another good example of a mix of soundscape and music, the track however lens towards creepy but less so then the track above. The off-kilter piano just doesn’t work at all for what we’re looking for but again, the mood of this track is almost there.
Transformers – Decepticons
In terms of dark male vocals, little beats those featured on this track. We could go without the reverb here, the deep vocal work does wonders to conjure evil. As the track progresses, the vocals rise higher and higher which might not work for this track.
The track must be no less than 2:30 in length. We acknowledge that we’re asking for A LOT from all of you. If you have any questions, please shoot us over a message through Audio Catch, we’ll try to answer all of it. We can’t wait to hear how you bring this nether realm to life! Good luck!!!
