The Orange County Gaming Group, having successfully concluded a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign is firing on all cylinders to source the best custom made fantasy audio this world has ever heard. This track will be, in OCGG terms, an Ambience track or as it’s known in the industry, an underscore track. Probably one of the most challenging Music Gigs OCGG has yet to put out, this Gig seeks to showcase a race of fantasy creatures that are themselves defined as consummate artists (including musicians) and that skill needs to shine through this track so complex music is a requirement.

Gnomes. Old world myth paint these creatures in all sorts of light, from the malicious to light-hearted. In the scope of this Gig, we are going to go with a rendition of this race as the kind hearted, joke loving, magic infused creatures of technological, artistic, and magical pursuit. Chaotic in nature, these very long lived natural artisans will spend centuries mastering several crafts while seeking passive understanding in many others. Able to perform basic magic from birth, gnomes are expressions of imagination and emotion, seeking truth through the study of arts and crafts.
Now for what we’re looking for.

We want to capture the gnomes’ chaotic, light-hearted, and above all, artistic and magical prowess. The way we see to do this is a musical track underscoring a gnome celebration (gnomes have many celebrations) which various gnome musicians are either competing with one another or working together weaving wildly different styles of music into a harmonic whole. Not just different types of music chaotically playing at the same time but one style giving way to another and back again, as each gnome musician interjects his/her own unique piece in the track. Fantasy medieval rock giving way to Swing, giving way to Square Dancing, giving way to Folk music, giving way back to rock and so forth is a random example of what we’re looking for. In addition, we want to truly show that these are gnomes and as such, their music is likely to be aided by magic which can take many forms including fireworks, dragon roars, chimes, or whatever else seemingly random but harmonic addition to the overall piece.

A common theme throughout the entire piece is joy, up-beat, celebratory music which the artist can accent by adding a soundscape in the background of gnomes conversing and having a good time. Keep in mind though that if there is going to be any speech at all, try to avoid having it be clearly understood human conversation. We don’t want to hear the backdrop of some New York bar here. Ideally, the background speech wouldn’t be English at all as gnomes have their own language, but this is an advance and optional requirement. Other party-like sounds such as children playing, glass cups clanking, and above all laughter are important. Laughter deserves special mention. Gnomes, by their very nature, are pranksters and hearing gnomes playing jokes on one another followed by roarous laughter can add a wonderful gnomish element here. Keep in mind that gnomes are little people so we don’t want any deep sounding voices or laughs.

The following tracks have been identified as providing a good basis for inspiration into the feel, energy, and direction this track requires. Please note that there will be no tolerance for stolen work, so make sure that submitted auditions are original compositions and that you have 100% rights to use and sell any samples or loops you embed.

Stand by Me – Playing for Change
Not quite what we mean here since each new musician is adding a layer to the overall track, this gives you some idea of the overall theme. Instead of layers, we want each transition to be a wholly different style of music all together however, the overall track harmony is maintained in one seemingly chaotic but cohesive and harmonious track.

Two Hornpipes – Pirates of the Caribbean
This captures the folky, upbeat, celebratory energy that we’re looking for. Although lacking the various musical transitions, the track maintains a high energy, happy tune which the requested track needs.

    Paul McCartney - Dance Tonight
As far as what can be passable gnome, fantasy, medieval music, something along these lines can make a good segment. The mandolin in the foreground and the vocals carry with it the feeling of simplicity and the upbeat energy is wonderful.

The track must be no less than 2:30 in length. We acknowledge that we’re asking for A LOT from all of you. If you have any questions, please shoot us over a message through Audio Catch, we’ll try to answer all of it. We can’t wait to hear how you bring this nether realm to life! Good luck!!!
